Since its inception on the 17th April, 2007 the Nephrology Educators’ Network has promoted a standardised, and evidence based approach to nephrology education that aims to avoid the duplication of resources while also encouraging knowledge sharing between organisations. These inter-organisational partnerships support nurses caring for people with kidney disease throughout Australasia including those in remote and disaffected communities.


In July, 2009 the NEN became the education subgroup of the Renal Society of Australasia. As part of its commitment to the ongoing education of nurses and technicians, the NEN is developing a suite of learning resources to support all nurses regardless of practice area who come into contact with people who are either at risk of, or suffer the burden of kidney disease.

This offers a national approach to specialist workforce development and will be part of a larger research project entitled the “LEARN project” (Leading the Education and Advancement of Renal Nursing). www.nen.org.au is a dynamic and evolving site, as new resources are developed the site will be updated. This will take time and we are always looking for clinicians who are willing to assist with project and resource development work.


The NEN executive welcomes all feedback and suggestions on how to improve the service we provide to those who deliver education to nephrology staff. If you would like to provide feedback or be a part of the work the NEN is doing please contact your state representative via our contacts page.
